Privacy Policy for Steady

Last updated: 30 July 2026

Steady is a weight-tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch. This policy explains exactly what it does with your information. The short version: Steady collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no servers. Everything it shows you is read from Apple Health on your device and calculated on your device. There is no account to create and no way to sign in, because there is nothing to sign in to.

What Steady reads from Apple Health

With your permission, Steady reads the following:

DataWhy
Body massThe core of the app. Steady smooths your weigh-ins into a trend line and compares it against the goal you set.
Body fat percentageTo show whether what you're losing is fat or lean mass, if your scale records it.
HeightOnly to calculate BMI, so you don't have to type it in.
Dietary energyOnly to estimate your maintenance calories. Steady never sees what you ate, only the daily total.
Steps, exercise minutes, distance, active energyTo show how your activity lines up with your weight over time.
Resting heart rate, sleepTo show whether a sustained deficit appears to be affecting your recovery.

Every one of these is optional. You choose which to grant when you first open the app, and you can change your mind at any time in the Health app under Sharing → Apps → Steady. If you decline a category, the features that use it say so plainly and everything else continues to work.

Apple does not tell apps which read permissions were declined, so Steady cannot detect a refusal — it simply has no data for that category.

What Steady writes to Apple Health

One thing: a weigh-in you type in yourself. Nothing else, ever.

If you use the “Log a weigh-in” screen or the Siri shortcut, Steady saves that body-mass reading to Apple Health so every other app you use sees the same number. It writes nothing else to Health and never modifies or deletes data written by other apps or devices.

What Steady stores on your device

Steady also keeps a small summary of your current figures in a shared container so the home-screen widgets and the Apple Watch app can display them without re-reading Health.

Your weigh-ins are not stored by Steady. They live in Apple Health, which is where they belong, and are read fresh each time. Deleting Steady removes its preferences and leaves every weigh-in exactly where it was.

What Steady does not do

Notifications

If you turn them on, Steady may send you a daily weigh-in reminder and occasional notifications when something notable happens in your data — reaching a milestone, or a long stall. These are generated and delivered entirely on your device by iOS. No notification content leaves your iPhone, and no server is involved.

Children

Steady is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Health disclaimer

Steady is an informational tool, not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Speak to a qualified healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, exercise or weight.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top. Because Steady collects nothing, any change is far more likely to be a clarification than a change in practice.
